Hospital Pharmacist

This is not a new job. A hospital pharmacist works in a hospital pharmacy service, primarily within the public sector. They are responsible for ensuring the safe, appropriate and cost-effective use of medicines. Hospital pharmacists use their specialist knowledge to dispense drugs and advise patients about the medicines they have been prescribed. They work collaboratively with
other health care professionals to devise the most appropriate drug treatment for patients. Some pharmacists will also be involved in the manufacture of the required drug treatments.
Not easy to be a Hospital Pharmacist, because as we know the curriculum in pharmacist college not result the best pharmacist in hospital. So we need more knowledge about pharmacoteraphy, and how to create communication with the patients.
More experienced pharmacists may be involved in teaching, both within the pharmacy department and more widely within the hospital. In teaching hospitals, this could include lecturing clinical staff on various aspects of drug treatment.

Seven Stars Pharmacist

Today the latest concept in medicine is towards individualization of drug therapy. Where judicious patient care is needed individualization of drug therapy becomes a need, and a pharmacist can play a vital role in this. A physician who is preoccupied with patient diagnosis and treatment may not spare time for patient counseling regarding pharmaco-economics, drug information, alternative therapy, moral supporting etc. A pharmacist can set up a separate consultation room and provide counseling to the patient. He can store the details of patient history, allergies and other details necessary for therapy so that the concept of individualization of drug therapy could be implemented.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) introduced the concept of the "seven-star" pharmacist" to cover the roles of a pharmacist, i.e.: caregiver, decision-maker, communicator, manager, life-long learner, teacher and leader. Later “Research” was added as an eighth category, which formed the Eight Star pharmacist categorie.
